Dental visits are not the same for everyone. While some people do not find it a big deal to visit us for dental procedures, the situation may become a little challenging for others. The fear of pain, bleeding, and other discomforts make them fearful and anxious to even opt for procedures as simple as dental check-ups. If you are one of them, we will administer you sedation before the treatment.
Sedation dentistry makes you calm, relaxed, and comfortable during the dental procedure. It includes giving a moderate level of sedation which keeps you awake, but you cannot feel any pain or discomfort. Sedation dentistry creates a state of forgetfulness. Eventually, you do not feel pain or any uncomfortable sensitivity.
Commonly known as laughing gas, this form of sedation has calming and mild effects. You inhale this gas via a mask or nosepiece and begin to feel its effects within a few minutes of such inhalation. We control the amount of sedation you receive and adjust the dosages accordingly.
After the procedure, we will give you pure oxygen to breathe to flush out the laughing gas from your system.
It involves medication available in the form of pills. We will give you such pills an hour before the procedure. In some cases, we may also use liquid sedation, especially among kids. The use of oral conscious sedation makes you groggy. You may even fall asleep, but it doesn’t stop you from communicating with us.
As this sedation affects your motor skills and memory, you may need a friend or family member to drive you home after the procedure.
Intravenous or IV sedation is the deepest form of sedation available at our clinic. We will administer the sedation directly into your vein, which produces significant sedative effects almost immediately. We will monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels throughout the procedure. If necessary, we will adjust the dose and also reverse the medication.
The effects of this sedation are the fastest. It makes you fall asleep, and you do not feel anything. You may have little or no memory of the treatment that we perform on your teeth.
